ABOUT LIFESTYLE MEDICINE

Isn’t lifestyle medicine just wellness advice repackaged as healthcare?

This is one of the most common misconceptions we hear, and it’s worth addressing directly. Fleurish lifestyle medicine is a board certified medical specialty with its own rigorous training standards, examination process, and clinical framework. Practitioners earn certification through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine a process that requires completing accredited education, demonstrating clinical competency, and passing comprehensive examinations. This is not wellness coaching or general health advice. It is evidence based medicine that happens to use lifestyle interventions as its primary treatment tool, just as cardiology uses the heart or nephrology uses the kidneys.

Lifestyle medicine is most powerful in addressing chronic conditions with strong behavioral roots, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity, metabolic syndrome, certain autoimmune conditions, sleep disorders, anxiety and depression, and elevated cardiovascular risk factors. Many patients have reduced or eliminated medications under the guidance of their lifestyle medicine practitioner. Lifestyle medicine can also be used preventively addressing risk factors before a diagnosis occurs.

No. Lifestyle medicine is evidence based, clinician delivered conventional medicine. It does not reject pharmaceutical treatment when it is necessary and appropriate. It prioritizes lifestyle based interventions because the science shows they are often the most effective first-line treatment for chronic conditions but it works alongside conventional care, not against it.

GETTING STARTED

I’ve already tried to change my lifestyle before. Why would this be any different?

Because most previous attempts didn’t have clinical support behind them. The science of behavior change tells us that knowledge alone is rarely enough people also need personalized strategies, accountability, and support that adapts to real-life barriers. At Fleurish, we combine clinical expertise with behavioral science to help you make changes that actually last. We’re not here to judge previous attempts. We’re here to give you a better toolkit.

No. We never impose a rigid plan on anyone. Your lifestyle medicine care plan is built around your goals, your circumstances, your preferences, and your readiness to change. We work collaboratively with you to find sustainable approaches not one size fits all prescriptions.

It depends on your starting point and your goals. Many patients notice improvements in energy, mood, and sleep within weeks. Clinical markers like blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipid levels often improve within one to three months of sustained change. Reversal of established chronic disease typically requires more intensive and sustained effort, but the evidence shows it is achievable. We’ll track your progress at every step.
